It's Just a Little Bit of History Repeating...

So...Hurricane Emily...back from the dead. She's been here before. I was in the fourth grade. I remember because at the time I was only one of three Emilys in the whole school and I was the only Emily in the class and...being small children...we thought it was totally awesome that it was "my" hurricane. We watched the news coverage of the hurricane in class. I was a tad disappointed when it didn't cause a lot of destruction. But, no one else had a hurricane...so I was very proud.

Oh look...I found the information. Read and be smart.

"Hurricane Emily (August 22-September 6, 1993) threatened North Carolina as a category 3 storm, but fortunately was pushed out to sea before moving inland. It is notable for the length of time (eight days) it remained at hurricane strength. Damages of $35 million resulted primarily from flooding and the storm tide."

I also found out in my research that hurricane names are recycled every six years, the same list of names since 1979. Once a hurricane has caused significant damage, like Hurricane Andrew, the name is retired and replaced with a new name starting with the same letter.
